1. Altar of Plagues - Mammal
Song: All Life Converges to Some Center
Like the Gaelic lament that dominates the ethereal ’When the Sun Drowns in the Ocean,’ Altar of Plagues’ second album plays out like a funereal dirge. With Mammal, the Irish quartet grapple with concepts of death and mortality through a mosaic of four unbelievably beautiful tracks. The atmosphere is dark, cavernous, and filled with a sense of mourning.
Mammal walks a tightrope of blackened riffs, cacophonous percussion, and majestic harmonies. The end result is nothing short of a masterpiece.
If people want to play ‘All Life Converges to Some Center’ at my funeral, I’d be okay with that.
