6. Blut Aus Nord - 777 - Sect(s) / 777 - The Desanctication

 Song: Epitome II

How much I grew to love the first two parts of Blut Aus Nord’s 777 trilogy was a definite surprise. Sure the traditional absurdoty and grotesque compositions you’d expect from Blut Aus Nord are at play here. Bot moreso than ever before does Vindsval fully commit to playing out the band’s Godflesh influences.

Over the course of two albums, a veritable masterpiece is woven. Preposterous riffs akin to Portal fuse with soaring melodies reminiscent of Justin Broadrick’s early solo efforts, held together by drums that fluctuate seamlessly between fevered blastbeats and rhythms that could be straight off of Streetcleaner

Vindsval has never been shy of disassociating Blut Aus Nord with traditional definitions of black metal, and with these two albums it almost feels like he has gone out of his way to craft a sound that is hard to even quantify.

In many ways this duology is the grim, avant-garde Jesu I never knew I wanted.
